At the Eastbourne Beer Festival in October 2022 on the bar was a Long Man beer new to all of us, Oatmeal Stout. It was received with universal enthusiasm, so much so that it was voted by customers as Sussex Beer of the Festival, an accolade thoroughly approved of by branch members serving on the bars. So a group of 18 members visited the brewery shop and visitor centre for a special private evening opening, most arriving in a hired Cuckmere Community Bus. We were greeted with the news that all drinks would be ‘on the Brewery’ for the evening. Richard Scullion, the CAMRA Brewery Liaison Officer for Long Man, in introducing the brewery staff to us, thanked the brewery staff for their generous hospitality. Presenting the award, Branch Chair Peter Adams echoed Richard’s thanks and said how pleased he was that one of the most local breweries to the festival had deservedly won this award. Replying for the brewery, head brewer Steve said that Long Man had won a number of awards, but a beer of the festival award from the local beer festival was particularly gratifying; it had been voted for by largely local drinkers and was much appreciated.
